Timely Topics Webinar: Get Checked: Why Colorectal Cancer Screening Matters
12 p.m.
Colorectal cancer (CRC) screening reduces deaths. Colonoscopies are the most effective screening, but patients are resistant to this procedure. The fecal immunochemical test (FIT) can be performed at home, yet barriers exist for some patients. How can screening be made more accessible and more effective? Are new testing options on the horizon?
Join David Lieberman, M.D. ’79, professor emeritus at the OHSU School of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology as he discusses:
- Strengths and weaknesses of available screenings
- Reasons some populations remain at higher risk of colorectal cancer
- Details about new non-invasive tests
Mandy Paolo, M.P.A.S. ’24 joins Dr. Lieberman to comment on community outreach and issues regarding access to screening in rural Oregon.
