Frank Young is a writer, an artist, an historian and a cancer survivor.
Young was diagnosed with leukemia and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2016. While his initial treatment was effective against the leukemia, the non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma persisted. Young was referred to Richard Maziarz, M.D., professor of medicine in the OHSU School of Medicine and medical director of the cell therapy program at OHSU, who at the time was helping lead the development of a new treatment called CAR-T cell therapy.
Young reflects on his diagnosis and how his experience and care at the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute changed his life.
“I’m just so grateful to be here, to be alive, to be able to create and think, and that I came into the orbit of such kind and caring physicians.”
